ANIMARHYTHM
AN EXCITING, NEW PRIMARY MUSIC-TEACHING RESOURCE FOR TEACHERS, SCHOOLS AND PUPILS
A superb, new primary music teaching resource, designed to help educators deliver outstanding music lessons.
AnimaRhythm provides an engaging and accessible way for specialists and non-specialists to teach music in a variety of settings.
AnimaRhythm helps children of ALL ages and abilities to experience, understand and create, and to develop a life-long love of music.
Book Description:
Music is one of the most neglected subjects in primary schools, not only because of mounting pressure to achieve in the ‘academic’ subject but also because primary teachers often don’t feel comfortable with the subject matter. Singing features more readily in Early Years/KS1 settings, thanks to nursery rhymes, singing CDs and online singing resources. But Music as a subject - including the teaching of rhythm, movement, listening, music reading, instrumental work and composition - it is often under-represented or omitted from the curriculum altogether.
Today’s music teaching resources often fall into one of two categories - either too simplistic or too fussy. The best teaching resources will have a clear layout and ‘no nonsense’ approach. Teachers should be able to open a resource book and moments later, have a good Music lesson, ready to teach. Teachers are so overwhelmed with paperwork that they just don’t have 45 minutes to prepare a 30 minute lesson – it just won’t happen. As a result – some of the most popular music resources on the market today, are gathering dust on music room shelves the length and breadth of the country.
AnimaRhythm is a series of lesson plans and accompanying resources including posters, flashcards, musical extracts and pupil quest sheets with strategies on how to teach a comprehensive primary music curriculum.
It is based on a very simple principal, using animals and colours to represent rhythmic patterns and pitches. This is not a new idea, but until now it has never been developed to the same extent. It draws elements from both the Kodaly method and Dalcroze Eurythmics, but adds in a layer of colour and dynamism, appealing to young learners.
The AnimaRhythm principals are so intuitive that they almost don’t have to be taught! Most 4 year-olds have no idea what crotchets and quavers are, but every 4 year-old knows what a mouse and a spider are! The AnimaRhythm approach is so easy to pick up that using through this method, a class of 4 year olds can be tapping out complex rhythm patterns within minutes! Traditional methods would take months to achieve the same result.
Whilst re-edits are ongoing, the book is currently being trialled in a number of different schools, including state schools, independent schools, an international school (where the majority of pupils have English as a second language) and a school for children with special needs.
AnimaRhythm is accessible to everyone, including children with EAL and children with special needs. Give it a try – you’ll see that AnimaRhythm really does work!
