Recognising limitations in what he viewed as ‘traditional’ teaching methods, Allan took an initial idea, using animal names as rhythm patterns and combined this with colours to formulate a new approach to primary music teaching. Observing the profound impact it had on his students' progress, Allan developed and expanded the concept until it eventually formed the backbone of his entire primary music curriculum.

In 2011, Allan relocated to London and in the years that followed, he continued to develop and refine what was by then known as the ‘AnimaRhythm’ primary music programme, piloting it in a range of primary music settings in both the UK and abroad. Encouraged by the programme's early successes and positive feedback, AnimaRhythm moved online and now offers not only a comprehensive primary music programme, but also in-person and online teacher-training for both specialist and non-specialist music teachers looking to upskill and enhance their school’s music provision.

Allan continues to teach part-time in a central London primary school, whilst, further developing AnimaRhythm and helping other schools instil a love of music with their students. Allan is also currently pursuing a master’s degree at the Royal College of Music with a view to further expanding his knowledge and expertise in the field of music education.
